#TheAfricanWay at PRASA – Are you sure you want to get on that train? Management at PRASA have looted all the money, even for train brakes, now they are scratching around in old drums looking for old second hand parts to use!

An official inspection by the the Rail Safety Regulator (RSR) at the Braamfontein maintenance premises of PRASA, has found that they don’t have a single train brake set in stock, and can’t replace worn brake parts on PRASA trains. This finding by the Rail Safety Regulator has been officially communicated to Prasa in a letter addressed to them on 22 January.

PRASA has been ordered to provide the RSR with proof that it intends to solve the shortage of brake block sets and Prasa has also been ordered to provide assurances and proof that all brake block sets on trains are in a safe serviceable order. Cut your nose to spite yourself! Metro rail train services canceled in Cape Town following arson attack

The two latest incidents in which two trains of Metro Rail in the Western Cape went up in flames bring the struggling entity even closer to a financial abyss.

The trains were destroyed by the fire, and workers using the service later had to make other arrangements to get to the workplace.

Metro rail’s total number of trains and passenger vans have been attacked and burned by vandals over the past few years so that they currently have less than half their trains left in the Western Cape.

The Metro Rail said in a statement that the Cape Town railway station platforms 9, 10, 15 and 16 were so affected by the fires that they were closed, and that the railway station would also be closed for several hours.

All train services are canceled until later notice, and commuters will have to make use of alternative transport.

Transnet wasted almost R50 billion, most of which is used to buy trains that cannot be used in SA

State-owned entities are currently under considerable pressure and there is doubt as to how many of them have the ability to continue without the necessary financial assistance.

This is the opinion of Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu, who last week released a national and provincial auditor’s report for the period 2028-2019 in Cape Town.

He says there are weaknesses in the performance of many entities and the roughly 14 state-run institutions that are heavily subsidized by the state and the ANC government apparently did not contribute much to improving their results.

The 14 institutions also spent R1.4bn on illegal spending, and may be further investigated with further investigations.

Denel, the SABC, SA Express shipping company, and the SA Forestry Company are some of the biggest offenders of wrongful expenses incurred.

Breaking News: Pretoria train crash – Fingers pointed at ANC “negligence” for deadly collision

After four people were killed in the Pretoria train crash, the DA have wasted no time in finding a source of blame for the horrific accident.

Four people have been killed and more than 200 people were injured following the Pretoria train crash on Tuesday morning. A head-on collision saw both trains derail, causing carnage on the tracks. The DA have already called for an inquiry, and believe the blame lies with their political opponents in government.

John Moodey is the Gauteng spokesperson on public transport for the DA. He has demonstrated no hesitation in tying the incident to ANC policy, saying that they are failing to take passenger safety seriously.
