On Wednesday, schools reopened for the new school year, but thousands of scholars do not yet know where to go because there are too few schools and too few teachers.

In some schools, classrooms are so crowded that black pupils sit on buckets with an old beer desk crate for a desk.

It is reported that more than 6,500 schools have a shortage of furniture, and unskilled people are standing in front of numerous classrooms’ blackboard to try and teach pupils.

Experts point out that more than 25% of state schools are without enough desks and chairs for pupils.

A few new schools have been set up, but this compares poorly with the many schools burned down by pupils, and now black pupils are forced into traditional Model C schools, demanding that the school provide for English-language teaching for black learners . The school should also see to make teachers available to educate the black learners.

Breaking News: Pretoria train crash – Fingers pointed at ANC “negligence” for deadly collision

After four people were killed in the Pretoria train crash, the DA have wasted no time in finding a source of blame for the horrific accident.

Four people have been killed and more than 200 people were injured following the Pretoria train crash on Tuesday morning. A head-on collision saw both trains derail, causing carnage on the tracks. The DA have already called for an inquiry, and believe the blame lies with their political opponents in government.

John Moodey is the Gauteng spokesperson on public transport for the DA. He has demonstrated no hesitation in tying the incident to ANC policy, saying that they are failing to take passenger safety seriously.

Thousands of social support applications found dumped in a field in the Free State – Can the government explain how did this happen and confirm whether the applications were processed before they were dumped

The Democratic Alliance claims it found “thousands” of social support applications dumped in a field in the Free State on Monday.

“It is heartbreaking that the applications were for abused children and complainants without any source of income and who turned to the department in the hopes that their situation would be turned around,” DA Free State premier candidate Patricia Kopane said.

Kopane and party spokesperson Geordin Hill-Lewis found the documents in an open field while they were conducting an oversight inspection at a waste recycling plant in Thaba Nchu, about 70km east of Bloemfontein.

Kopane wrote to Free State social development MEC Butana Kompela demanding an investigation.

“It is unacceptable that officials at the department of social development can be so reckless with confidential information which should not be seen by the public.”

EFF warns of ‘maximum’ ‘anarchy’ if government doesn’t scrap university registration fees – What arrogance coming from them, seems like they want everything in life for free!

The EFF Students Command (EFFSC) held a press conference on Monday at the party’s headquarters in Braamfontein where they listed a series of demands, including the shut down of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

Other demands included that “no students must be turned back due to lack of space” and that “all certificates” withheld by tertiary institutions due to lack of payment be given to their “rightful owners”.

Keetse also said the control of the education system by “white monopoly capital” must be disrupted.

Keetse warned there would be chaos if the government refused to respond to their calls for fee-free registration at South African universities.

He said the organisation is awaiting a response from government.

Syndicates exploits SA as a trade route for illegal drugs – Cocaine worth R720m seized on ship in Port Elizabeth docks

Port Elizabeth – The Directorate of Priority Crime (Hawks) on Tuesday said they have seized cocaine coming from Brazil with a street value of R720 million in the Port Elizabeth docks.

The bust was made at the Port Of Ngqura, Coega Harbour and netted 706 kilograms of the drug packed into one kilogram bags.

The operation took place over a period of 12 days and the cocaine was seized on Monday.

At a media briefing on Tuesday in Struandale, National Head of the Hawks, Advocate Godfrey Lebeya said the value of the cocaine could have built an entire village.

Lebeya said the cocaine was concealed on the bottom floor of the ship under more than 3 369 containers in a 30-level ship.

“The crooks were determined to ensure that nobody would detect this. This was designed to evade detection,” he said.

Desperate times calls for desperate measures, but is this the right thing to do? After all financial losses occurred due to incompetence, negligence and corruption – SAA is borrowing R3.5bn from local banks

South African Airways (SAA) received a R3.5bn loan to keep it going until the end of March.

This forms part of the R21,7 billion SA management believes is needs to make its turnaround strategy succeed.

SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali confirmed the R3,5bn was received from local banks.

This comes after National Treasury gave R5bn to SAA in October last year to repay debt.

According to Tlali, SAA will not be profitable before 2021, but plans are on track to save the state-run airline from its money pen.

SA’s acting chief financial officer Deon Fredericks said in November that the airline needed the R3.5bn by March. According to Fredericks, SAA will suffer a R5.2bn loss in the current financial year to end-March, and a loss of R1.9bn in 2019-2020. However, SAA management has already warned the rise in oil prices could hamper its expected timetable for a return to profitability.

Two new statues of terrorists will cost Durban taxpayers R20m. The erection of the statues is alleged to promote black unity in the province. However to the cost of whom?

The municipality believe that terrorists Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo will be “honored” in this way and will encourage to promote black unity.

The previous four statues of Mandela, Mbeki, Zuma and Ramaphosa cost the taxpayer approximately R1,9 million.

Experts believe the amount of R20m for two further statues is excessive, and believes it is unfair to tax citizens while worshiping these terrorist worship.

Price shock beckons if Nersa authorize Eskom’s request- National power provider demands 45% increase in tariffs – Now taxpayers have to pay for state institution’s incompetence

National power provider, Eskom’s application to Nersa will be heard in Cape Town next week.

Nersa has already approved a 4.41% increase, but now Eskom is demanding 15% annually over the next three years, which is three times the official inflation figure.

Energy expert Ted Blom says the application should be scrapped until the forensic audit is completed on the statecapture that took place at Eskom.

Experts have disclosed a different outlook on this situation by pointing out that the power tariffs are already too high and should rather be lowered, especially in view of the fact that power is being sold to neighboring countries at far lower rates than charged to South-Africa itself.

The power provider also indicated that load shedding could be reinstated next week, which would further crippled the economy.

South Africa’s public education system a disgrace – The real matric pass rate in South Africa’s is actually 40%

Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga has announced the matric pass rate for the class of 2018 – 78.2%.

The “real” matric pass rate is much lower, however, when you take the total cohort of students who started school and would eventually become the matric class of 2018.

Looking at the number of learners enrolled in Grade 1 in 2007 – the group which would reach matric in 2018 – the total was 1,002,500.

With 512,700 full-time learners writing matric in 2018, and then 78.2% of these students passing, the “real” matric pass rates comes in at 40%.

This sentiment was echoed by DA Shadow Minister of Basic Education Nomsa Marchesi.

Marchesi said that Motshekga has again failed to address “the large number of learners who don’t write matric in the first place”.

Couple brutally murdered during smallholdings attack in Limpopo, house set on fire

A brutal attack took place in the early hours on Friday 4 January 2019, on one of the Wildebeeslaagte smallholdings in Northam, Limpopo.

A businessman and his female companion were attacked, murdered and robbed after which the attackers set the home on fire. A BMW, clothing and other household items were robbed during the assault.

Waterberg Veiligheid/Sekuriteit reported that Captain du Plessis from the Northam SAPS along with Heritage Protection Group (HPG) in Northam followed up leads and arrested a suspect in Rustenburg with the assistance of Rustenburg SAPS. The BMW that was robbed along with various items from the victim’s home were also recovered including bloody clothes.
