The Black First Land First (BLF) movement says it has no money for legal representation in its court battles.

The group was in the Equality Court on Tuesday in the matter between itself and a complainant represented by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

The complainant has accused the BLF of using hate speech.

The BLF says that groups and people who have taken them to court over various incidents are opportunistic as they know that they cannot afford legal representation.

Deputy president Zanele Lwana explains: “It is a lot of money to pay for legal representation in this country. We already have an overwhelming amount of legal costs from racists, including AfriForum, who want to see our movement destroyed and punished through legal costs.”

SAPS under fire for “negligence” in their investigation of Naka Drotské’s case

The family of Naka Drotské revealed he is in a “critical condition” on Wednesday. His family want justice, but there could already be obstacles in the way.

Justice for the family is imperative. But, whatever happens next, concerns are already being raised that this could be impeded. Earlier in the week, AfriForum revealed that they directed an enquiry to the Tshwane East cluster of the SAPS, fearing that the crime scene was being treated with “negligence”.

Violent actions by groups of striking AMCU members are causing havoc and mayhem at Sibanye-Stillwater

Sibanye-Stillwater advises that violent actions by groups of striking AMCU members close to its Beatrix operations in the Free State province, have continued.

In the early hours of the morning on 11 December 2018, various altercations between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and large groups of AMCU members resulted in a
number of employees being injured.

Several employees are receiving medical treatment, with one sadly in a critical condition.

These incidents took place outside of demarcated picketing areas and in clear contravention of the interdict obtained by Sibanye-Stillwater from the Labour Court on 22 November 2018, the picketing rules which were established by the CCMA on 29 November 2018 as well as the subsequent order by the Labour Court on 5 December 2018.

Criminals target Johannesburg clinics, facilities without electricity after cable theft – Services at the clinic have been temporarily suspended

The Westbury clinic in Johannesburg was left without electricity after it was tampered with the facility’s main power cable said the health and social development department on Wednesday.

The clinic’s operating manager said in a statement he saw an unknown man running from the building on Tuesday afternoon after a loud blow noise was heard. He also noted smoke from the same direction as the bang.

“The fire brigade was called for precaution and the patients were evacuated. It was a relief to know that there was no fire and the smoke was of wires that burned when the cables were cut, “the department added.

Due to damage to the main power cable, the generator, which serves as backup, could not be switched on.

Services at the clinic have been temporarily suspended and all vaccines have been sent to a nearby clinic for storage.

Corruption and bribery seems to be a general tendency in traffic department – Hawks arrest another bunch of corrupt traffic officials this time in the Cape Province

The Hawks arrested seven traffic officials for issuing drivers licenses for payment. A security guard and six female test officers will appear in court on complaints of fraud and corruption.

The violations at Khayalitsa have taken place since January 2015 and October 2018. It appears that these types of offenses are not eradicated, as licensing officers are shortly arrested for the same complaints.

The volunteer recently reported on the many North Transvaal workers arrested for the same crimes, and there seems to be a general tendency.

Violence will be knocking at your door declares BLF after IEC refuses to register the party for municipal elections in 2019

The extremely radical and controversial leader of the Black First Land First (BLF) says there will be violence if the Independent Electoral Commission refuses to register its party for the forthcoming municipal elections of 2019.

He made the remark after it was disclosed that the BLF may not participate in the election in terms of the constitution that clearly notes that the conduct of hate speech and declaring of genocide is condemned.

He raised the threat during a media interview with reporters and said if the IEC prevented him from participating in the forthcoming election, violence would break out in South Africa.

Earlier, in a speech, he encouraged his audience to kill white people, which led to severe reactions from different resorts.

Meanwhile, it is expected that President Ramaphosa will act or at least give a warning but it did not happen.

In ‘n verslag van die SA Health Review blyk dit dat die tekort aan menslike hulpbronne die ANC se droom van universele gesondheid dekking kelder. Die verslag toon dat veral die landelike areas ernstige tekorte het aan mediese beamptes.

Syfers toon dat soveel as 106,000 poste reeds in 2010 vakant was vir 14 kliniese gesondheidsprofessies.

Waar en hoe die staat die poste gaan vul is ‘n raaisel en die vermoede bestaan dat gekwalifiseerdes vanuit die buiteland ingevoer sal word om te verseker dat die blankes van Suid-Afrika nie aangestel word nie.

Cheeky Watson pleads ‘not guilty’ to charges of fraud and money laundering

Former Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) president Cheeky Watson has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to charges of fraud and money laundering.

The trial got underway on Tuesday.

According to the HeraldLIVE website, Watson says he was unaware of any fraudulent activities and that he did not know that anything was wrong when Nadia Gerwel, a former assistant director of accounting at the Nelson Mandela bay metro, transferred R2.9 million into the EPRU bank account.

Another development from Tuesday was that a third charge, failure to report fraud, has been added to Watson’s charge sheet.

Watson, Gerwel, Andrea Wessels and Mandisi Mkasa are all accused of being involved in alleged fraudulent activities that amount to R12 million and centre around funds for Port Elizabeth’s Integrated Public Transport System.

Less than 2000 state ambulances nationally may be on the road

The national health department says it is against outsourcing emergency services. But with a grave shortage of ambulances, it may have no choice.
Just 1971 state ambulance vehicles are on the road nationally, a Bhekisisa survey reveals.

Health department guidelines say there should be at least 5 700 ambulances in operation — or one for every 10 000 people, according to standards quoted in the KwaZulu-Natal health department 2017 annual report. But with less than 2 000 actually functioning, there are only enough state emergency vehicles to cater for about a third of the population, data from provinces show.

A May audit of provincial health departments by the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) found shortages of ambulances and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel in several provinces.

The DA challenges the ‘failing’ ANC to suspend Pule Mabe, ANC national spokesperson

It has not been a great week for the ANC. It has been an even worse week for the party’s national spokesperson, Pule Mabe, who stands accused by his former personal assistant of sexual harassment.

The 26-year-old wrote a 14-page letter of complaint to the deputy secretary-general, Jessie Duarte, telling of the horrors of working for Mabe.

In the grievance letter, the PA, an avid supporter of the ANC Youth League, recalled a number of occasions where she found herself cornered by Mabe, who was allegedly doing everything in his power to initiate a sexual relationship with her.

After refusing his advances on a consistent basis, the PA alleged that Mabe started abusing her emotionally and even went as far as allegedly cutting her salary.

Mabe has since taken leave from his duties until the internal processes into the complaint have concluded.
